Work by Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner David Baker published in the journal Science used an enzyme identified at CNPEM to validate tool that revolutionized the study of proteins via AI
David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry yesterday for their research using computers to create new proteins or predict their 3D structures from amino acid sequences.
In his two most recent articles published in the respected journal Science, David Baker used an enzyme deciphered by CNPEM researchers through analyses conducted in Sirius as an example to validate the algorithms for his AI tool.
This protein identified by CNPEM researchers can produce hydrocarbons, precursor molecules for generating jet fuel and sustainable chemicals, a discovery described in an article published in PNAS in 2023.
The award was featured in the Superinteressante and G1 news outlets.
