CNPEM Will Offer Travel Assistance for Eligible Researchers; Facility Has New Multi-User Equipment
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is accepting proposals until August 31, 2026, for the use of its Mass Spectrometry Facility (MAS), operated by the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio). Proposals must be submitted exclusively through the SAU Online platform, and approved projects will be carried out throughout 2027.
Vanquish Neo UHPLC system coupled to Thermo Scientific’s Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer (CNPEM)
The Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (MAS) is an open, multi-user facility that has been part of CNPEM’s facility complex since 2009. Its mission is to develop and apply state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomics methods to address biological questions proposed by both internal and external users.

Travel assistance for researchers outside the state of São Paulo and from Latin America and the Caribbean
During this call for proposals, researchers affiliated with institutions outside the state of São Paulo and from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean may apply for travel assistance, provided that their proposals are approved and they meet the eligibility requirements of the assistance program.
Advanced equipment and scientific and technical support
The equipment available at MAS provides robust analytical capabilities for users, particularly in the field of single-cell proteomics.
In addition to its experimental infrastructure, the facility’s technical team supports users throughout all stages of their projects, including experimental design, sample preparation, liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis, and data processing and interpretation.
MAS comprises dedicated laboratories for sample preparation, instrumentation, and data analysis, and offers the following equipment:
- EASY-nLC II coupled with an LTQ Orbitrap Velos ETD ion trap (Thermo Scientific)
- Evosep Eno LC coupled with an Orbitrap Exploris 240 mass spectrometer (Thermo Scientific)
- Vanquish Neo UHPLC coupled with an Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer (Thermo Scientific)
- Acquity UPLC-Class M coupled with a Xevo TQ-XS mass spectrometer
- CellenONE X1 single-cell isolator (Scienion)
The facility’s main areas of expertise include:
- Discovery proteomics and peptidomics
- Targeted proteomics and peptidomics
- Spatial proteomics
- Proteomic analysis of post-translational modifications
- Structural proteomics
- Single-cell proteomics
- Computational proteomics
External Scientific Committee Will Rigorously Evaluate Proposals
All submitted proposals will be reviewed anonymously by an External Scientific Committee, which evaluates applications based on their scientific and technical merit. Committee members are recognized researchers in their respective fields:
