Boosting the impact of knowledge generated at the CNPEM

The activities at the CNPEM help strengthen the National Science, Technology, and Innovation System (SNCTI), and include close collaboration with various actors in the productive sector, which allows us to help solve complex problems and create innovative technical solutions that can be brought to market and benefit society. These collaborations with companies of different sizes in various sectors can take place through research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) projects, transfer of technologies and know-how developed by our researchers, and providing highly specialized services. These activities may be funded by the company itself and/or research agencies and support funds.

RD&I in strategic areas for the country

The projects carried out by the CNPEM in collaboration with companies involve various areas of application in order to provide solutions for different sectors. This diversity reflects the multiple capacities and topics involved in work at the CNPEM, which has unique infrastructure, transversal competencies, and various technologies that allow synergistic applications to meet needs from areas that are strategic for the country.

How do we support corporate efforts toward innovation?

The CNPEM’s Innovation Support Assistance department (AIN) promotes the use of the scientific and technological knowledge produced at the Center, identifying opportunities for the CNPEM to contribute to innovation and entrepreneurship in Brazil, managing its intellectual property assets, protecting sensitive information, and actively working so that findings from research that takes place at the Center reaches society in the form of new products, processes, and services. As part of this role, AIN manages the CNPEM’s innovation policy, and carries out the following activities to support corporate innovation:

  • Partnerships in R&D&I projects: R&D&I partnerships involve developing new technologies or optimizing existing ones in the CNPEM’s areas of competence, utilizing the Center’s infrastructure, skills, and research staff;
  • Transfer of technology and know-how: companies can accelerate their technological development by licensing and subsequent sale of the technologies resulting from studies conducted by CNPEM researchers. These technologies can be seen in the Technology Showcase on this site;
  • Providing technology services: we use our sophisticated and nationally unique infrastructure to help companies of various sizes by providing highly complex technological services.
