CNPEM launches initiative to offer classes for graduate students and senior undergraduates
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) announces the opening of the Introduction to Electron Microscopy course. Promoted in partnership with postgraduate programs from several Brazilian universities, the course will be open until July 28, 2024, starting on August 1, 2024, and will be free of charge. General information about the course including the syllabus, schedule, selection criteria, and application form are available on the course website.
The course is CNPEM’s first program aimed at graduate studies – a natural step after the successful establishment of the bachelor’s degree offered by Ilum – School of Science.
Aimed primarily at graduate students and senior undergraduate students in Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering courses throughout Brazil, the course aims to provide a theoretical-demonstrative introduction to transmission electron microscopy (TEM/MET) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/MEV). You can find the topics of all the classes in the course syllabus.
The classes will be taught by experienced professionals from CNPEM’s Brazilian Nanotechnology National Laboratory (LNNano) and will be held online, with both asynchronous (recorded) and synchronous (live) content. The live classes will be broadcast via Microsoft Teams and the instructions for accessing the online rooms will be sent to the selected participants.
Conversion into academic credits and exams
Those interested in transferring their participation in the course into academic credits should discuss the possibility with their course coordinators at the respective universities where they are enrolled.
Three face-to-face assessments are planned throughout the semester, on the dates suggested in the course schedule. The tests will be applied on university premises, under the supervision of the respective course coordinators, and will then be digitalized and submitted to LNNano lecturers for correction.
Participants who do not need academic credits can obtain certificates of participation, provided they attend at least 75% of the synchronous classes. These participants will not take the exams.
Registration will be open between June 10 and July 28 exclusively on the course website. If you have any questions, please write to curso-microscopia@lnnano.cnpem.br.
