Dr. Irene Layane de Sousa, a researcher in the Applied Spectroscopy and Chromatography Group at the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio), part of The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), received the Best Poster Award at the 2nd European Congress on Mass Spectrometry and Analytical Techniques, held on June 8–9, 2026, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The award recognized the presentation entitled “Development of an MRM-Based Targeted LC–MS/MS Metabolomics Platform for Multimatrix Analysis.” The study describes the development of a targeted metabolomics platform based on liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) for the analysis of metabolites involved in key metabolic pathways, including glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle (Krebs cycle), the urea cycle, amino acid metabolism, organic acids, and nucleotides.
The initiative aims to establish an analytical workflow applicable to multiple biological matrices, expanding CNPEM’s metabolomics analytical capabilities.
