The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) assumed presidency of the MCTI/EMBRAPII Innovation in Bioeconomy Network, part of the Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Corporation (EMBRAPII). In a ceremony during the Green Rio 2023 congress held on September 1 in Rio de Janeiro, leadership of this network passed to Patrícia Toledo, Head of Innovation at CNPEM.
The network comprises an integrated system of 28 units dedicated to stimulating, fostering, and integrating research, development, and innovation activities among Brazil’s various research centers and corporations, encouraging greater value for and sustainability of Brazilian biodiversity.
Since 2014, CNPEM has been recognized as an EMBRAPII unit. In order to expand relations with the manufacturing sector, integrate the skills available in the national laboratories at CNPEM, and promote innovation in the country, the EMBRAPII Biotechnology|CNPEM unit has cutting-edge infrastructure and qualified professionals who carry out projects in the areas of industrial biotechnology and biotechnology with health applications. The unit also has solid experience developing biotechnology platforms, bioprocesses, biological and nanomaterials, biofuels, drug discovery processes, and diagnostic testing.

A sophisticated and effervescent environment for research and development, unique in Brazil and present in few scientific centers in the world, the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is a private non-profit organization, under the supervision of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
