The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) has opened applications for the 34th edition of the Summer Scholarship Program (PBV), an initiative that has been training young university students from Latin America and the Caribbean since 1992. The program is aimed at undergraduate students in the exact, biological, earth, and health sciences, as well as engineering and technology fields, and has already welcomed more than 500 participants across its editions.
Applications are free of charge and must be completed between August 10 and September 8, 2026, exclusively via the Summer Scholarship Program website. The list of selected students will be announced on October 5, and the program will take place from January 6 to February 26, 2027.
The PBV offers an immersive experience at CNPEM, one of the most important research centers in Brazil, connecting students with the frontiers of knowledge across various fields. The projects developed throughout the program will be designed by teams of the Center’s researchers and specialists, employing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches.
Only upon arriving at the CNPEM campus in January 2027 will the students discover which project they will be developing, who their advisors will be, and in which CNPEM unit they will spend their “Summer Vacation”.
Benefits
Candidates selected for PBV 34 will be welcomed at the CNPEM campus in Campinas, São Paulo, starting January 6, 2027. During the program, students will receive various benefits, including round-trip airfare, psychological and educational support, travel assistance insurance, meals, accommodation, and daily transportation between their temporary residence and CNPEM.
