Open facilities

Open facilities are environments that provide high-technology equipment free of charge to researchers, technicians, and students from around the world, along with laboratory consumables and specialized technical staff. In return for using these facilities, users are required to publish the results of their research in the scientific literature, acknowledging the use of CNPEM’s facilities.

In addition, open-access facilities foster scientific cooperation and contribute to the training of human resources in research and educational institutions. During their visits to carry out approved research proposals, users receive training and technical support for the use of the equipment, enabling them to extract the data necessary for the development of their research.

Accessing the open facilities

When an external researcher has a scientific hypothesis and requires CNPEM’s equipment infrastructure to conduct experiments that support the search for answers, a research proposal may be submitted through the User Support Service platform (SAU Online), according to the call schedule of the Center’s open-access facilities. Proposals undergo an evaluation process and, once approved, grant researchers access to the open-access facilities and the possibility of applying for financial support.

Financial support

Users affiliated with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) or Science and Technology Institutes (STIs) from Brazilian states other than São Paulo, as well as from Latin America and the Caribbean, may apply for financial support to cover travel, meals, and accommodation. For each approved proposal, up to two researchers may request financial support. Please refer to the User’s Office Financial Support page for detailed information on eligibility and available funding.
