Financial support
Beneficiaries of the open facilities with proposals scheduled on the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) and on the Brazilian Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano) are eligible for a grant to carry out the experiments on the CNPEM campus. The CNPEM reserves the right to interrupt or alter this Benefits Program anytime. At this moment, there are 2 types of financial support.
Financial support for in person experiments
They are intended for external beneficiaries of Brazilian institutions residing outside the state of São Paulo, as well as foreigners residing in Latin America and the Caribbean. The financial support consists of:
- Support for Transportation: Reimbursement of expenses related to airline tickets purchase or to ground transportation and reimbursement for travel expenses, like those ones corresponding to the use of a private motor vehicle;
- Support for sample shipment: The User´s Office will arrange the collect of the samples or the reimbursement of expenses for shipment in Brazil (for non-residents of São Paulo state), Latin America and Caribbean, obeying the maximum amount described in the table below. The CNPEM is not responsible for any delays caused by others;
- Support for Accommodation: The accommodation is located on the campus of CNPEM. It is designed exclusively to host researchers, technicians, fellows, or trainees who are performing regular activities in the laboratory for a fixed period. Due to the limited space in the guest house, rooms are subject to availability If no room on-site is available for the requested period, the amount spent on off-site housing will be refunded by CNPEM;
- Support for Meals: Lunch at the CNPEM restaurant during the experiment period is provided by CNPEM. Lunch on weekends (when the CNPEM´s restaurant is closed) will be refunded considering the lunch cost at the CNPEM´s restaurant upon receipt presentation.
Beneficiaries | Eligibility | Financial support per team |
---|---|---|
Brazilians | Non-residents of São Paulo state | 2 users per proposal or 1 sample shipment per proposal |
Foreigners | Latin America and the Caribbean | 2 users per proposal or 1 sample shipment per proposal |
Financial Support for Remote Experiments
They are intended for external beneficiaries of Brazilian institutions that reside in a range larger than 120 km from Campinas/SP and foreigners that reside in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Support for mail-in experiments: The User´s Office will arrange the collection of the samples or the reimbursement of expenses for shipment in Brazil (for non-residents of São Paulo state), Latin America, and the Caribbean, that opt-out for carrying out the experiments remotely, without been in person at CNPEM campus. The financial support will also obey the maximum amount described in the table below. The CNPEM is not responsible for any delays caused by others.
The rules are summarized in table below:

Foreigners | Latin America and the Caribbean | 1 sample shipment per proposal |
Rules
- The benefits are granted only to those users who make a prior request via the SAU Online.
- The benefits are not available for those users who have another financial support to perform the scheduled experiment.
- The beneficiaries must necessarily be linked to an educational institution and/or research institution. Those institutes must be public or private nonprofits.
- The financial support may be requested at least 15 days before the beginning of the experiments for Brazilian beneficiaries and 45 days prior to the beginning of the experiments for foreign beneficiaries. If there is a need to bring forward the visit (for sample preparation and other cases), the request for assistance will be available as soon as the proposal is scheduled. For any other reason not mentioned in the regulations, the beneficiary should contact edu@cnpem.br. Retroactive requests will not be accepted.
- The sample shipment must be requested on SAU Online platform, which will be available after the scheduling of the proposal. After the approval of the financial support for the sample shipment, the beneficiary will receive the permission to send the samples or the User´s Office will arrange the sample pick up at the beneficiary´s institution. Samples sent off the SAU Online platform will not be accepted.
This rule applies due to the schedule of the open facilities and to ensure the safe arrival of the samples at the CNPEM campus. - The beneficiary that requests financial support for sample shipment should provide all the documentation requested prior to the sample shipment. The shipment will only be allowed after all the documents are certified by the User´s Office review which consists of a Packing List and the Invoice with detailed information about the samples. The beneficiaries will only be allowed to send samples that are not biologically or chemically dangerous; not for therapeutic use; diagnosis; toxic; pyrophoric; infectious; pathogen or medicaments. The samples are destined for laboratory testing and should not contain additives from animal culture or cellular, like albumin or serum.
