Challenge

Prevent unknown information transferred over noisy transmission channels from being lost, as well as expand the ability to analyze data and data types.

Measuring Information Content of data

Innovative new methods to assess the quality of 2D and 3D images, detectors, algorithms and procedures. New metrics and algorithms to find the global and local information content in 1D, 2D and 3D data-sets. The results give absolute values measured in bits, in contrast to metrics that are currently used, like the Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (SNR). The information contents of images of different cameras, detectors, imaging procedures, data harvesting, data-compression algorithms etc. thus become directly comparable. Our new technology can be used as standalone software and/or can be integrated into your existing instrumentation. Potential applications are medical imaging and diagnostic equipment, nano and microscopy devices, geophysical processing, remote sensing, communication (fiber optics, wireless).
