Coils to generate high magnetic fields
The coils currently available for use are of either resistive or superconducting type. Despite their fast response and water cooling, resistive coils dissipate power proportional to the applied current, and this limits field generation to about 3T. Superconductors, on the other hand, can generate fields of up to 10T, but for this, they require cryogenic cooling and respond slowly to a current reversal. The CNPEM has developed a new alternative for the market of electrical coils capable of reaching fields above 3T, with fast response and without the need for cryogenic temperatures.
