Infrastructure allows cleanroom device fabrication, serving researchers on an ongoing basis
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) accepts proposals on a rolling basis that involve using the micro and nanofabrication facilities. Researchers from around the country can submit research proposals through the SAU online system and choose the most relevant facilities to their projects, which can be used at no cost for academic users.
Candidates whose proposals are approved will have a full range of equipment at their disposal which makes it possible to fabricate devices in cleanroom settings and include a variety of techniques, most notably:
- electron beam lithography
- photolithography
- corrosion and deposition of thin films
- electrical characterization of devices.
Proposals are evaluated internally by a team of specialists to validate technical feasibility. Potential users interested in utilizing the facilities are encouraged to email the facilities coordination team at nanofabricacao@lnnano.cnpem.br before submitting their proposals via SAU Online.
The CNPEM team can provide valuable information about the technical capabilities of the open facilities and accelerate the evaluation process after submission via SAU Online.
Support for conducting experiments
Researchers whose submissions are selected for facility use will be assisted by professionals from the Brazilian Nanotechnology National Laboratory (LNNano) at CNPEM while their projects are being carried out.
The devices division, where micro and nanofabrication processes take place, has a multidisciplinary team as well as sophisticated equipment for electronic and optical lithography, depositing thin films, and corrosion.
Assistance for researchers outside the state of São Paulo
Researchers at institutions outside the state of São Paulo whose proposals are approved may request assistance to fund their travel, as well as meals (lunch) and lodging. More details and requirements can be found on the CNPEM User Office website.
About CNPEM
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment with activities on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation. A social organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), CNPEM is driven by research that impacts the areas of health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. It is responsible for Sirius, the largest assembly of scientific equipment constructed in the country, and is currently constructing Project Orion, a laboratory complex for advanced pathogen research. Highly specialized science and engineering teams, sophisticated infrastructure open to the scientific community, strategic lines of investigation, innovative projects involving the productive sector, and training for researchers and students are the pillars of this institution that is unique in Brazil and able to serve as a bridge between knowledge and innovation. CNPEM is responsible for operating the Brazilian Synchrotron Light (LNLS), Biosciences (LNBio), Nanotechnology (LNNano), and Biorenewables (LNBR) National Laboratories, as well as the Ilum School of Science, which offers a bachelor’s degree program in science and technology with support from the Ministry of Education (MEC).
