The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), with support from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), is offering a post-doctoral fellowship in X-ray tomography. The project is coordinated by the Synchrotron Light National Laboratory (LNLS), which is part of CNPEM and headed by researcher Nathaly Lopes Archilha.
The 36-month fellowship is linked to a project entitled “Resolving barriers in 3D X-ray imaging with temporal resolution using a new data acquisition and processing paradigm,” FAPESP process 2024/08590-6. The project is a collaboration between CNPEM and Ghent University (Belgium).
Activities involved
The selected post-doctoral fellow will work on optimizing acquisition and reconstruction methods for high-speed tomography. With the new direct X-ray detector on the MOGNO beamline, data can be acquired at many frames per second, permitting localized and time-resolved analysis.
The fellow will design and carry out experiments adapted to ultrafast tomography, as well as search for, adapt and develop reconstruction algorithms from scientific literature for spatiotemporal (4D) data. Activities will include developing pre-processing strategies in the detector domain and localized reconstructions in regions of interest (ROIs) to conduct efficient analyses without total reconstruction of the volume.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a doctorate in areas such as image processing/reconstruction, scientific computing, applied mathematics, engineering physics, computational physics or related areas.
Experience in scientific software development and programming in Python, C/C++, CUDA, Numba or PyTorch is also required.
The position offers the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research at Latin America’s only synchrotron light source, in an innovative and collaborative environment.
