The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) will open its 2026 visit calendar in February, introducing a new online scheduling platform. The initiative targets educational institutions interested in organizing student visits to CNPEM’s multi-user, multidisciplinary scientific facilities.
For more than 20 years, CNPEM’s Visit Program has welcomed weekly groups of middle school, technical and higher education students. The program aims to present the Center’s research infrastructure and cutting-edge scientific and technological activities, promote recognition of science produced in Brazil, and inspire young people to pursue careers in science and technology.
In 2026, visits will be scheduled through two public calls. The first call opens on February 23 and covers visits from March to June. The second call will take place from June 8 to 12 for visits from July to December.
New scheduling platform
This year, CNPEM is launching a dedicated visit scheduling platform, available at https://visitas.cnpem.br. The system provides registered users with an exclusive environment to request, track and manage visit bookings.
The platform also centralizes the submission of mandatory access documentation and allows updates to visitor lists up to seven days before the scheduled visit.
In addition, the website offers comprehensive information for prospective visitors, including scheduling dates, access tutorials, visit itineraries and practical guidance for the day of the visit, as well as a Visitor’s Manual.
Registration on the platform is mandatory for all groups wishing to schedule visits starting February 23. Advance registration is recommended, as availability is limited and subject to confirmation after submission. Full rules and program details are available on the platform.
Ciência Aberta 2026
CNPEM has also announced the dates for Ciência Aberta 2026, which will take place on May 29 and 30. Now in its eighth edition, the event has previously welcomed thousands of visitors with an interest in science.
Following the established format, Friday, May 29, will be reserved for pre-registered student groups, while Saturday, May 30, will be open to the general public.
Ciência Aberta features a wide range of activities designed to broaden access to science, strengthen science communication and encourage public engagement with scientific knowledge. For more information, visit: https://pages.cnpem.br/cienciaaberta/
About CNPEM
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment and works on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation. A social organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), CNPEM is driven by research that impacts the areas of health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. It is responsible for Sirius, the largest assembly of scientific equipment constructed in the country, and is currently constructing Project Orion, a laboratory complex for advanced pathogen research. Highly specialized science and engineering teams, sophisticated infrastructure open to the scientific community, strategic lines of investigation, innovative projects involving the productive sector, and training for researchers and students are the pillars of this institution that is unique in Brazil and able to serve as a bridge between knowledge and innovation. CNPEM’s research and development activities are carried out through its four National Laboratories: Synchrotron Light (LNLS), Biosciences (LNBio), Nanotechnology (LNNano), Biorenewables (LNBR), as well as its Technology Unit (DAT) and the Ilum School of Science — an undergraduate program in Science and Technology supported by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
