Collaborations with Petrobras
The CNPEM’s collaboration with PetrobrĂ¡s is an example of a long-standing success story involving various laboratories. Some notable R&D projects involving collaboration with the company include:
- Distributed sensing technology for wells (2010-2014): microfabricated sensors (MEMS) were developed for real-time temperature and pressure monitoring in oil wells. The results of this project can be applied in similar monitoring systems throughout all stages of oil and gas production.
- Methods for sample preparation and sensors in oil and gas (2019-2024): this project monitors and applies a microfluid platform to increase control in dosing, raw material byproducts, and quality monitoring of the projects used in this processing chain.
Development of critical stages in the production of second-generation ethanol, in a project funded by EMBRAPII, to develop a production route for cellulosic ethanol from biomass resulting from the sugar ethanol sector, including studies on the laboratory and pilot scales and integrating the findings into industrial scenario models for technical, economic, and environmental assessment.
This project was a success, and was chosen as a finalist for the ANP 2020 Technological Innovation Prize in the category “Reducing Environmental Impacts and Renewable Energy.”
