Research developed by LNBio in partnership with the Natura will be presented at the International Investigative Dermatology Meeting, to be held in May in Scotland. The research describes a metabolomic assessment by NMR of the classical in vitro skin permeation method, a test used in the development of topically applied pharmaceutics and cosmetics.
The classical method is widely employed as a predictive approach for in vivo absorption related to the formulation safety and quality, but it does not assess biological activity. Aiming the establishment of a model to evaluate the metabolic profile and measure skin condition during skin permeation approaches, LNBio and Natura combined the in vitro skin permeation method with NMR spectroscopy.
This technology displayed robust sensibility for the identification and quantification of skin metabolites and formulation compounds over time, suggesting that the proposed combinations of techniques can be a powerful tool for evaluation of compound absorption associated with skin health and drug metabolism assessment. The evolution of similar approaches, employing human skin samples and combined detection systems, may also improve efficacy and safety studies for cosmetic and pharmaceutical development.
