Y podr\u00eda tener aplicaciones en medicina y en higiene y sanidad ambiental.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El nuevo hidrogel o gel en medio acuoso tiene una consistencia similar a la de la gelatina, es biodegradable \u201cy responde a un est\u00edmulo [en este caso, el pH] cambiando una propiedad de manera reversible\u201d, indic\u00f3 a la Agencia CyTA-Leloir el director del proyecto, el doctor Guillermo Copello, investigador del Instituto de Qu\u00edmica y Metabolismo del F\u00e1rmaco (IQUIMEFA), que depende de la Facultad de Farmacia y Bioqu\u00edmica (FFyB) de la UBA y del CONICET.<\/p>\n<p>En particular, si se le agregan gotas de jugo de lim\u00f3n (\u00e1cido), el gel se encoge expulsando agua de su interior. Pero si se le gotea lavandina (alcalina), el gel se hincha y absorbe agua, explic\u00f3 Copello.<\/p>\n<p>Ese comportamiento peculiar podr\u00eda derivar en distintas aplicaciones. Por ejemplo, podr\u00eda servir como matriz o \u201cnanocomp\u00f3sito\u201d que, al encogerse, libere a trav\u00e9s de sus poros ciertos medicamentos, como antibacterianos. \u201cO, al expandirse, podr\u00eda absorber contaminantes en un lecho de agua\u201d, postul\u00f3 Copello.<\/p>\n<p>Tal como describe la revista \u201cMaterials Science &amp; Engineering\u201d, una de las ventajas del hidrogel es que se fabrica con queratina, una prote\u00edna con estructura fibrosa que constituye estructuras como pelos, u\u00f1as y plumas.\u00a0Y que, en este caso, fue extra\u00edda de cuernos de vaca, un desecho de la industria ganadera. \u201cPor un lado, reducimos la carga de desechos y por el otro generamos un valor agregado a algo que no lo ten\u00eda, lo que favorece a la econom\u00eda de la actividad productiva\u201d, explico el tambi\u00e9n investigador del Departamento de Qu\u00edmica Anal\u00edtica y Fisicoqu\u00edmica de la FFyB de la UBA.<\/p>\n<p>Para generar los hidrogeles, los investigadores usan reactivos de la qu\u00edmica verde, como soluciones alcalinas acuosas y alcohol et\u00edlico, lo que evita que el proceso de producci\u00f3n sea contaminante. El pr\u00f3ximo paso, se\u00f1al\u00f3 Copello, ser\u00eda vincularse con alguna empresa interesada para transferir este desarrollo al mercado.<\/p>\n<p>Del trabajo participaron Mar\u00eda Luz Peralta Ramos, Joaqu\u00edn Gonz\u00e1lez,\u00a0Lucas Fabian y\u00a0Mar\u00eda Emilia Villanueva\u00a0(Premio Nacional L\u00b4Or\u00e9al\u2013UNESCO \u201cPor las Mujeres en la Ciencia\u201d 2016), todos investigadores del IQUIMEFA; y Claudio P\u00e9rez,\u00a0del Instituto en Investigaciones en Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda de Materiales (INTEMA), que depende de la\u00a0Universidad de Mar del Plata y del\u00a0CONICET.
