Between July 26 and August 1, the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) will take part in the 78th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC), held at the Gragoat\u00e1 campus of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), in Niter\u00f3i. Under the theme \u201cCi\u00eancia para todos: soberania, desenvolvimento e inclus\u00e3o\u201d, the event brings together researchers, students, public managers, scientific leaders, and representatives of the federal government to discuss strategic challenges facing the country in areas such as health, artificial intelligence, climate change, education, development, scientific and technological sovereignty, and evidence-based public policies.<\/p>\n
CNPEM will be present at this edition of the SBPC Annual Meeting with an institutional exhibition space at the ExpoT&C exhibition area, alongside other units affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). Aimed at promoting science outreach, CNPEM will showcase examples of research with impact in health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability, as well as interactive demonstrations of its main scientific facilities, which enable advanced studies\u2014such as Sirius, the largest scientific infrastructure ever built in the country. Visitors will also be able to learn more about projects currently under development at the Center, including Orion, a laboratory complex dedicated to advanced research on pathogens, and the Hub for Radical Innovation in Health, focused on the development of strategic technologies for the sector.<\/p>\n
In addition to exhibition pavilions such as ExpoT&C, SBPC Cultural, and SBPC Jovem, the program features a wide range of lectures and discussions addressing key topics in science and technology. Among them is the roundtable \u201cPesquisa e Inova\u00e7\u00e3o em Sa\u00fade no Brasil,\u201d held on July 29, featuring Maria Augusta de Arruda, Director of the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio).<\/p>\n
The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment and works on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation. A social organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), with the involvement of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, CNPEM is driven by research that impacts the areas of health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. It is responsible for Sirius, the largest assembly of scientific equipment constructed in the country, and is currently constructing Project Orion, a laboratory complex for advanced pathogen research. Highly specialized science and engineering teams, sophisticated infrastructure open to the scientific community, strategic lines of investigation, innovative projects involving the productive sector, and training for researchers and students are the pillars of this institution that is unique in Brazil and able to serve as a bridge between knowledge and innovation. CNPEM's research and development activities are carried out through its four National Laboratories: Synchrotron Light (LNLS), Biosciences (LNBio), Nanotechnology (LNNano), Biorenewables (LNBR), as well as its Technology Unit (DAT) and the Ilum School of Science \u2014 an undergraduate program in Science and Technology.<\/p>
