The institution’s contribution to COP30 ranges from presenting projects and participating in debates to launching the “Bio Dreamers” video<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), a social organization\u00a0 linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation\u00a0(MCTI), participates in the 30th United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP30), the UN Climate Change Forum, with activities on strategic topics such as biotechnology, bioeconomy, and energy transition.<\/p>\n

CNPEM’s activities at the conference are part of the event’s official and parallel program, and include project presentations, participation in debates, and the launch of the “Bio Dreamers” video, which highlights the role of science and innovation in addressing climate change and valuing Brazilian biodiversity as a source of inspiration for researchers in the search for solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\"\"Amazonian biotechnology focused on health<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On November 10th, CNPEM will join the Federal University of Par\u00e1 (UFPA) and Biotec-Amaz\u00f4nia in a program dedicated to the institutions’ joint actions focused on Amazonian biotechnology applied to health. The activities will be held at the stand of the Association of Amazonian Universities (Unamaz), located in the Green Zone, one of the areas that will host the official program of COP30.<\/p>\n

Researcher Daniela Trivella, from the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio\/CNPEM), will represent the Center at the stand, participating in activities and conversations with the public about research and projects under development in the area of biotechnology for health.<\/p>\n

The stand’s program will highlight two major projects currently under development: the Iwasa\u2019i: Advanced Center for Biotechnology Research and Innovation in the Eastern Amazon<\/a>, funded by the Pr\u00f3-Amaz\u00f4nia call for proposals<\/a>; and the \u201cDrug discovery platform from Brazilian biodiversity: new green and chemical APIs for medicines made in Brazil for SUS patients\u201d, initiative supported by the public call More Innovation Brazil \u2013 Health ICTs 2024<\/a> and co-founded by Regenera, a company that offers innovative solutions based on molecules and microorganisms from marine biodiversity.<\/p>\n

Both initiatives integrate efforts in biotechnology for health, based on knowledge of the molecules and genes of Brazilian biodiversity. The projects aim to transform this knowledge into new pharmaceuticals and bio-inputs, leveraging inclusive and collaborative research to strengthen pharmaceutical innovation in Brazil, based on the unique potential of national biodiversity.<\/p>\n

\n

Bioeconomy and energy transition<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In addition to its presence in the official COP30 program, CNPEM will also participate in the activities of the House of Science, a space organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation\u00a0(MCTI) and the Em\u00edlio Goeldi Museum of Par\u00e1 (MPEG), which brings together more than 40 events focused on science, technology, innovation, and sustainability in the Amazon.<\/p>\n

On November 13th, researcher T\u00e1ssia Junqueira, from the Brazilian Biorenewables National Laboratory (LNBR\/CNPEM), will participate in the round table \u201cSustainable Fuels, SAF and Hydrogen\u201d, at 3:30 pm. The debate will be moderated by S\u00e9rgio Peres da Silva, researcher and professor at the University of Pernambuco (UPE).<\/p>\n

On November 17th and 18th, the researcher and director of the Brazilian Biorenewables National Laboratory (LNBR\/CNPEM), M\u00e1rio Murakami, will participate in two debates on the energy transition and the bioeconomy as drivers of ecological transformation and for the new Brazilian industrialization.<\/p>\n

On the 17th, Murakami will participate in the “Energy Transition” roundtable discussion at 2 pm, which will be moderated by FAPESP.<\/p>\n

On the 18th, Murakami will participate in the panel \u201cBioeconomy as a Driver of Neo-industrialization and the Ecological Transformation of the Brazilian Economy\u201d, at 10:30 am, moderated by Henrique Vasquez, manager of Finep.<\/p>\n

The activities of the House of Science will take place in the Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira Auditorium, located in the Zoobotanical Park of the Em\u00edlio Goeldi Museum in Bel\u00e9m (PA).<\/p>\n

\n

Sustainability and bioinnovation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

CNPEM will also be represented in the conference’s official program by the director of LNBio, Maria Augusta Arruda, who is a Senior Advisor to the COP30 presidency. She will participate in international panels on biotechnology, sustainability, and innovation. Maria Augusta will begin her participation on November 10th, at 6:30 pm, in the debate “Nature will set the Price,” held at the EY House in Bel\u00e9m (PA).<\/p>\n

On November 17th, at 5:30 pm, she will participate in the panel \u201cJust Transition Roadmap\u201d at the Green Zone.<\/p>\n

At the Blue Zone, she will be a speaker at \u201cThe People in the Lead: A Citizens\u2019 Track\u201d (ISWE \u2013 Global Citizens\u2019 Assembly) on November 18th at 1:45 pm, and at the special events \u201cMutir\u00e3o in the Cities\u201d and \u201cGlobal Mutir\u00e3o \u2013 The Legacy Lives On\u201d, on November 19th and 20th, respectively.<\/p>\n

Also on November 20th, at 5:30 pm, she will participate in the panel \u201cInformation Systems on Biological Molecules as a Strategy for Innovation, Decarbonization and Climate Adaptation\u201d (Brazilian Bioinnovation Association \u2013 ABBI), also at the Green Zone.<\/p>\n

\n

Launch of the Bio Dreamers video<\/strong><\/h3>\n

During COP30, CNPEM will launch the institutional video “Bio Dreamers\u201d, a production that celebrates the encounter between science, biodiversity, and people in building a sustainable future. “Bio Dreamers\u201d will be screened continuously from November 10 to 21 at Casa Goeldi, one of the spaces that make up the House of Science, located in the Zoobotanical Park of the Em\u00edlio Goeldi Museum in Bel\u00e9m (PA).<\/p>\n

The video portrays CNPEM researchers as bio-dreamers, professionals who transform the potential of Brazilian biodiversity into knowledge and innovation. Inspired by nature, they develop concrete solutions to global challenges, exploring the possibilities of the bioeconomy in areas such as bioenergy, biotechnology, and sustainable materials.<\/p>\n

The work highlights research conducted at CNPEM, such as the genetic mapping of Amazonian bacteria with potential for new antibiotics and antitumor drugs, and the development of enzymes capable of accelerating bioenergy production.<\/p>\n

About CNPEM<\/h2>

The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment and works on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation.
