Walking through state-of-the-art laboratories, seeing a particle accelerator up close, and discovering how science impacts our daily lives through dozens of activities?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The campus of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) in Campinas (SP) will once again open its doors to the public on May 30 and 31, 2025, for Ci\u00eancia Aberta. Now in its 7th edition, this free event offers science enthusiasts the chance to see Sirius\u2014the Brazilian particle accelerator\u2014up close, learn about cutting-edge research conducted at CNPEM, and visit one of the leading technology hubs in Latin America.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The program, which will be announced on the <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.cnpem.br\/cienciaaberta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">event&#8217;s website<\/a>, is designed for all age groups and will include playful attractions for children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MYUcFcRXJLI?si=Au-F_vRNTe71wDIu\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ci\u00eancia Aberta Will Take Place Over Two Days<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following the format of the previous edition, Ci\u00eancia Aberta 2025 will take place over two days. On Friday, May 30, the campus will be open exclusively to student groups from across the country starting at 9 a.m. On Saturday, May 31, the general public will have the opportunity to enjoy activities that make science more accessible and relatable to everyday life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Student groups interested in attending Ci\u00eancia Aberta on May 30 must complete an <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.cnpem.br\/cienciaaberta\/grupos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expression of interest form<\/a> on the event\u2019s website between February 7 and March 9. This step is a prerequisite for final registration, which will be made available via email starting March 14 only to those who have expressed interest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The expression of interest form will be available from February 7 to March 9, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The general public can visit the campus without any prior registration on May 31.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diverse Program, Infrastructure, and Food Court<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since 2016, Ci\u00eancia Aberta has brought together thousands of visitors driven by curiosity and a passion for science, technology, and innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2025, as in previous years, visitors will have access to Sirius\u2014one of the world&#8217;s most advanced particle accelerators and the only one in Latin America. They will also participate in activities organized by all CNPEM units, which conduct research in the fields of Biosciences, Nanotechnology, and Biorenewables. Additionally, the event will feature initiatives developed by CNPEM\u2019s engineering and technology teams, as well as Ilum, CNPEM\u2019s free undergraduate program in science and technology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ci\u00eancia Aberta will provide rest areas, hydration stations, and restrooms throughout the campus, including strategically located baby-changing facilities. While most of the campus is explored on foot, a shuttle service will be available at key points, exclusively for seniors, pregnant individuals, families with infants, and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Tradition of Welcoming Visitors<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ci\u00eancia Aberta is a unique opportunity to explore all of CNPEM\u2019s research units in a single day. Throughout the rest of the year, CNPEM offers pre-scheduled visits on Wednesdays for groups of high school, technical, and university students. <a href=\"https:\/\/cnpem.br\/en\/outreach\/visiting-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visit our Program of Visits page for available dates and times.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, the tour focuses on Sirius, allowing visitors to engage with CNPEM\u2019s research initiatives conducted in its National Laboratories and at Ilum. These visits are limited to groups of up to 40 people.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">About Ci\u00eancia Aberta<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CNPEM is committed to sharing its passion for science and remains open to research and dialogue with society. It hosts Ci\u00eancia Aberta annually, a free event (with an optional donation of 1 kilogram of non-perishable food) that aims to promote science in an inclusive and engaging way. The event encourages scientific dissemination and active public participation in the exploration of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ci\u00eancia Aberta\u2019s program is designed to help visitors understand how experiments are conducted, how cutting-edge infrastructure drives new technological advancements, and how research contributes to solving challenges in fields such as health, energy, food production, the environment, and materials development.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">About CNPEM<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) is home to a state-of-the-art, multi-user and multidisciplinary scientific environment and works on different fronts within the Brazilian National System for Science, Technology and Innovation. A social organization overseen by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), CNPEM is driven by research that impacts the areas of health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. It is responsible for Sirius, the largest assembly of scientific equipment constructed in the country, and is currently constructing Project Orion, a laboratory complex for advanced pathogen research. Highly specialized science and engineering teams, sophisticated infrastructure open to the scientific community, strategic lines of investigation, innovative projects involving the productive sector, and training for researchers and students are the pillars of this institution that is unique in Brazil and able to serve as a bridge between knowledge and innovation.
