No Brasil, um experimento realizado sob a coordena\u00e7\u00e3o de Mateus Borba Cardoso, do Laborat\u00f3rio Nacional de Luz S\u00edncrotron (LNLS), utilizou folato, um tipo de vitamina B, para envolver nanopart\u00edculas de s\u00edlica e aumentar a capacidade de interagirem com as c\u00e9lulas tumorais. As nanopart\u00edculas levavam em seu interior um composto para destruir as c\u00e9lulas cancerosas. \u201cOs tumores t\u00eam uma excelente recep\u00e7\u00e3o para o folato\u201d, diz Cardoso. As nanopart\u00edculas eram preenchidas com curcumina, uma subst\u00e2ncia extra\u00edda do a\u00e7afr\u00e3o-da-\u00edndia (<em>Curcuma longa<\/em>) que tem sido objeto de estudos como agente anticancer\u00edgeno (<a href=\"https:\/\/revistapesquisa.fapesp.br\/2010\/02\/03\/o-veneno-do-rem%C3%A9dio\/?cat=ciencia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>ver <\/em>Pesquisa FAPESP <em>n\u00ba 168<\/em><\/a>).
